Jesus, His Name is Salvation

Matthew 1:21

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

The name of Jesus is important. Yeshua means “salvation”. “He will save his people from their sins.”

What does it mean to save people from their sins? What does that plan look like? What did Mary think when the angel told her, “He will save his people from their sins”?

And, why did the angel call us “his people”?

Because, we belong to Christ. We are his treasured possession. We are his.

    I believe his is our savior.  How?  Through his atonement.  What is a good description of the word “atonement”? This is a good description:( sometimes initial capital letter ) Theology . the doctrine concerning the reconciliation of God and humankind, especially as accomplished through the life, suffering, and death of Christ. “  However, rather than “What is it?”, I wonder, “How was it accomplished?”  The answer to either question doesn’t come easily.  It takes a lot of study, pondering, prayer.  My mind usually won’t be still that long.
